Great news – The NEW TRAIL is OPEN!

Great news from the North Woods and the Headwater Lakes of the Allagash River.

After almost three months of effort and more than 25 days of work, the new snowmobile trail from the east of Aroostook, Piscataquis, and Penobscot counties is finally open to snowmobile traffic. It connects ITS 85, Oxbow, Millinocket, Shin Pond and Libby Camps to the west. The new trail connects the number three destination in New England, the historic Allagash Ghost Trains, and through traffic to the western Maine destinations, Chesuncook Lake, Kokadjo, Greenville, Jackman, and beyond.

The more than 15 miles of new trail would not be possible without the LANDOWNERS and we want to thank them for their generosity.

Thank you to the contractors who worked with us efficiently and timely. More than two weeks of excavator work, 2.3 and 2.6 miles of Feller Buncher work and 8 miles of bushhogging and brush work. We couldn’t have done it without them.

This project was not considered or known about until early November; the existing trail was going to be closed.

We, the Allagash Headwaters Snowmobile Club, working with Joe Higgins and the staff of the Dept. of Conservation and Maine LUPC, made a plan to accomplish it, and we have.

We hope the public appreciates our efforts and enjoys the new trail system.

If you want to help with this expensive project, please contact our club to make a contribution, and at the very least, Join the club!

Thank you again to all who made this possible for our Sledding Community!
